Designer Riccardo Belli came up with Bolea within the context of a design competition. The competition was set up by the association of Dutch furniture manufacturers and was intended to raise funds for a good cause by auctioning off the prototypes. That cause was Energy4All, a trust that raises money for research into metabolism disorders among children. Riccardo created a junior version of the model we now know. He called it Bolea, derived from “bambolearse”, which means “rocking”. Leolux built the prototype and decided to include the bigger version of the design in its collection. Even now, part of the proceeds of each lounger sold goes to Energy4All.
