His mother, Gertrud Hoffmann, worked as a renowned and successful textile designer and was the inspiration for Mathias Hoffmann's enthusiasm for colour and design at an early age. Interacting with creative people and artists every day left a lasting impression on Mathias and his own future in design. Working as a product manager with a furniture manufacturer paved the way for his career in furniture design. He founded his own design studio in 1981 and launched the think tank FantasiaS.L. in Ibiza in 1992 where he currently works in a team with his wife, textile designer Ulrike Sarvari.
